Download Windows 10

Table of Contents

To download Windows 10, use the official Media Creation Tool from the Microsoft website. The tool will help you create bootable installation media on a USB flash drive or as an ISO file for a DVD.

Before you begin
  • Back up your data: Ensure all important files are backed up to an external drive or cloud service, as the process may erase your data, especially during a clean install.
  • Check system requirements: Confirm that your PC meets the minimum requirements for Windows 10:
    • Processor: 1 gigahertz (GHz) or faster.
    • RAM: 1 GB for 32-bit or 2 GB for 64-bit (4-8 GB is recommended for better performance).
    • Hard Disk Space: 16 GB for 32-bit or 20 GB for 64-bit (32 GB for new installs).
  • Prepare installation media: You will need a blank USB flash drive with at least 8 GB of space or a blank DVD.
Step-by-step download and installation guide
1. Download the Media Creation Tool
  1. Go to the official Microsoft Download Windows 10 webpage.
  2. Click the Download tool now button.
  3. Save the MediaCreationTool.exe file to your computer.
2. Create your installation media
  1. Run the MediaCreationTool.exe file and click Yes if prompted by User Account Control.
  2. Accept the license terms.
  3. Choose Create installation media (USB flash drive, DVD, or ISO file) for another PC, and then click Next.
  4. Select your language, edition, and architecture (64-bit is most common) and click Next.
  5. Choose your media type:
    • USB flash drive: Select this option, then choose your connected flash drive from the list. The tool will download the files and make the drive bootable.
    • ISO file: Select this option to download an ISO file to your PC. You can later use this file to burn a DVD.
3. Install Windows 10
  • If you are upgrading an existing PC with Windows 7 or 8.1, you can run setup.exe directly from your newly created installation media to start the process.
  • For a clean install on a new PC or hard drive:
    1. Insert your USB drive into the computer where you want to install Windows.
    2. Reboot the PC and enter the BIOS or UEFI setup. This is often done by pressing a specific key during startup, such as F2, F10, F12, or DEL.
    3. Change the boot order to boot from your USB drive.
    4. Follow the on-screen instructions to begin the Windows Setup.
    5. Select Custom: Install Windows only (advanced) to perform a clean install.
    6. Choose the drive or partition where you want to install Windows. You can delete existing partitions if desired.
    7. Follow the prompts to finish the installation and set up your user account.
Note on product keys:
  • Reinstalling Windows 10: If you have previously upgraded to or installed Windows 10 on the same PC, you do not need to enter a product key. Your digital license is linked to your hardware and will automatically activate Windows after installation.
  • New installation: If you do not have a product key, you can still install Windows 10, but your copy will not be activated. A watermark will appear on the desktop, and some features will be limited.
